What can our BANES District Councillor do for us? - HCPC aims to find out!!    13 April, 2015

This election time Hinton Charterhouse Parish Council (HCPC) has chosen to take the initiative with regard to finding out what our BANES Councillor candidates can do for us in the parish of Hinton Charterhouse.  Many residents will have received leaflets from the various candidates, but HCPC wanted to be a bit more specific than broad party policy and pre election platitudes.

There is a strong perception that the focus of BANES spending is on the urban and developed areas with the rural areas such as the parish of Hinton Charterhouse neglected.  Certainly with high speed broadband the rural areas, including Hinton Charterhouse, seem to have been abandoned with no specified time for implementation.  Also, funding for things such as traffic calming is difficult to obtain, yet BANES funding for urban areas is much publicised in the Bath Chronicle.

The council has identified four significant policy objectives which directly affect the residents of the parish and have written formally to each of the candidates asking them specifically how they will support HCPC in achieving these.

The four objectives contained within the letter are:

1.       To secure traffic calming measures in the parish.

2.       To establish 20mph speed limits in the parish.

3.       To secure high speed broadband for the parish.

4.       To maintain the parish sweeper scheme.

Candidates have been asked to respond in writing by the 24th May when the responses will be simultaneously posted on the HCPC web site.

This exercise is not a political one, HCPC itself is non political and believes that we are best served by the individual not the party. The letters are about extracting specific commitments from the individuals that seek to represent the ward in which the parish of Hinton Charterhouse sits.

Chris Clemence, current Chairman of the Parish Council, is anxious to point out that in writing the letters it is not a criticism of the incumbent Councillor, Neil Butters, indeed quite the contrary.  However, we do not know who is going to be elected and therefore we are asking for responses and commitment from each of the candidates.

Members of the community can then vote based on what they believe each candidate has to offer the parish.

The full text of the letter sent to each candidate is below

Consultation on Bath Transport Strategy Launched    5 May, 2014

BANES have launched the consultation on the new Transport Strategy for Bath, please see their press release below.
At first glance the consultation does seem rather city centric and Hinton Charterhouse Parish Council will not wish to see something negative happen out here in the Parishes to accommodate something perceived as being positive in the City.
This is apparently how the whole Variable Message Sign saga started as part of the old Bath Transport Package.  HCPC will be, as best as possible, watching developments.
After what happened at Dorchester Street anything is possible!

Variable Message Sign Update    18 April, 2014

About this time last year the Parish Council became aware that BANES were planning to install a large illuminated Variable Message Sign on the A36 at the end of Green Lane.  The council objected most strongly to the plans, not only as no prior consultation had taken place but, in the opinion of HCPC the location was dangerous and there were valid fears that the sign would be used to redirect traffic thorugh the parish of Hinton Charterhouse and Midford and on through Southstoke.
