A note from Neil Butter about the A36 Closure    19 January, 2014

Subject: Closure of A36
Dear All
As is quite understandable, several people have been asking me for more details of the forthcoming closure of the A36.
I have therefore had exchanges with both Sean Walsh of the Highways Agency and Paul McElhone of B&NES.
It is clear that the works themselves will only affect a short section (some 300 metres) of the A36 near Claverton - Bathavon North Ward.  I am at a loss therefore to understand their reference to the 'centre of Brassknocker Hill'.
There will be an official through-route diversion involving the A350 - see herewith.
Paul M assures me that all stakeholders will be invited to a meeting before anything happens.
One option they are considering is making one or more local roads one-way only.
Three months is the realistic timetable.  This work should do for the next 10-20 years.
Nothing will happen until at least after the half-marathon - 2nd March.  (I know because my son will be running in it!)
Likely closure mid-March to mid-June.  They are determined to complete the work in time for the summer.
Please advise any particular worries.  In the meantime, I will pass on whatever further I receive.
Kind regards
Neil Butters
